How can I celebrate St. Patrick’s Day around my USF apartment?

Here comes spring. Yes, it is true. Living in Florida, especially in the Tampa area, you may not really notice a seasonal change with the mild winters, but March is here, and this means the start of spring and a very popular holiday, St. Patrick's Day. You may be wondering how you can celebrate and partake in the fun of the holiday at your apartment near USF.

St. Patty's Day Orgins

The holiday originated to observe the death of the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick, but has evolved into a celebration of all things Irish culture. Many celebrate with special foods, music, dancing, parades, and wearing green in hopes of finding a special four-leave clover for special luck. And we are in luck because the Tampa Bay area is a great place to celebrate this holiday with all kinds of fun options around the University of South Florida. Let's get exploring and get prepared for the holiday that falls on March 17th every year!

At Home Fun

If you are a homebody or just too busy as a USF freshman and looking to celebrate at home, we have some ideas for you. Bring out your green attire, and as a USF Bull, you are in luck. With our colors being green and gold, you will never get pinched, and you should have this step already covered. Next, head to the store for all the green and shamrock decorations to adorn your apartment. Make a favorite Irish dish, like this easy and simple corned beef and cabbage crockpot recipe. Invite some friends over for green drinks or beer if you are over twenty-one.

Find Your Local Irish Pub

If you want to go out with friends to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, there will be no shortage of special events and drink specials at every restaurant and bar around your student apartment in Tampa. But you may be looking to celebrate in an authentic Irish pub, and our area has plenty of options. You will find the Paddy Wagon Irish Pub closest to the USF campus near the University Mall. In south Tampa, you can find the popular MacDinton's Irish Pub & Restaurant.

St. Patty's Day Festivities

The River O' Green Fest is back this year in downtown Tampa for a bigger celebration. Party with all of Tampa as they dye the Hillsborough River green, experience Irish food, cold beer, live entertainment, and enter the Leprechaun Costume Contest.

If you are looking to head to the beach for a long weekend and celebrate there, you may want to check out the 25th annual St. Patrick's Day event at Flanagan's Irish Pub in downtown Dunedin. Admission is free, and you can enjoy Irish music, food, and beer. Dunedin is north of Clearwater Beach and west of the University of South Florida campus.

Suppose you have Irish heritage or are just interested in trying new food and joining in the fun of the celebration. In either case, you will find so many options to celebrate St. Patrick's Day around your USF apartment or in your apartment. Find your green and enjoy!
