Living in Tampa is a dream for a sports fanatic! While you do have your University of South Florida Bulls to cheer on, there are many professional sports teams near USF apartments that are enjoyed by both residents and people traveling from out of the area. The options are truly endless, you just name a sport and Tampa probably has a pro team for it!
Apartments near USF get to enjoy professional football right in their own backyard! The Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League call Raymond James Stadium home. The team first arrived in the area in 1964 and even has a 2002 Super Bowl Championship under their belt. The Bucs games are a fun experience for any football fan, with a rowdy tailgate section and a full-sized pirate ship that shoots a cannon each time the home team scores.
If America's Favorite Pastime is more your style, then you will be happy to know that a Major League Baseball team exists within a very close proximity to USF off-campus housing. The Tampa Bay Rays were created in 1998 and currently call Tropicana Field in downtown St. Petersburg home. The Rays made it all the way to The World Series in 2008, although they were unable to clinch the title. For any baseball fan, Rays home games are a fun time for the entire family. Each game, they host a different theme, complete with giveaways and contests. Tropicana Field even features a "touch tank" that allows spectators to interact with live stingrays. With Tampa being such a tropical location, The New York Yankees also call this area home for Spring Training, held at Steinbrenner Field.
One of the "coolest" professional sports teams located in Tampa has to be the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning. Established in 1992, the Lightning, or Bolts as their fans would affectionately call them, currently call the Amalie Arena in Downtown Tampa home. With a 2003-2004 Stanley Cup Championship on their resume, the Lightning have proven themselves a force in professional hockey. Since the home games are located so close to apartments near USF, grabbing some friends to watch some puck action should be no issue at all!
Some other professional sports teams that are up and coming include the Arena Football League's Tampa Bay Storm and the North American Soccer League's Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Tampa Bay Storm was established in 1987 as one of the charter franchises of the AFL. It is only one of the four still operating today. Home games are played in Amalie Arena, the same place where the Tampa Bay Lightning play. The Tampa Bay Rowdies were founded in 2008 and are based in St. Petersburg. Their home games are played at Al Lang Stadium, right on St. Pete's waterfront. As you can see, if you're a sports fan attending the University of South Florida, there's no shortage of options to choose from!
