Location, location, location. One of the big draws to attending college at the University of South Florida, yes after getting a great education, is the location and close proximity to one of the most beautiful stretches of Florida coastline. As you settle into your
new USF apartment you may be searching for the best beach option around and we compiled a list of our favorite options. Whether you are looking for the popular social spots or a spot to get away from it all we have you covered and ready to explore the Tampa Bay and the surrounding areas.
Ben T. Davis Beach
First on the list and the closest beach to the University of South Florida and downtown Tampa is Ben T. Davis Beach. Located on Tampa Bay off the Courtney Campbell Causeway that connects Tampa with Clearwater. This is a great place to spend the day. Enjoy the beach or participate in some recreational activities including volleyball or water sports, grab some food from next door at
Whiskey Joe's Bar & Grill then stay to watch the sunset.
Clearwater Beach
Next on the list is Clearwater Beach. Located west of Tampa and the name says it all, beautiful clear water. The beach is surrounded by a lot of fun shops and restaurants or explore the
Clearwater Marine Aquarium where some scenes from Dolphin Tale and Dolphin Tale 2 movies were filmed. Make sure to stay for
Sunsets at Pier 60. They feature a nightly sunset celebration with street performers and local artisans all on the pier on Clearwater Beach.
Madeira Beach and Treasure Island
Further south of Clearwater Beach you will find Madeira Beach and Treasure Island. A popular spot in between the two and located on Madeira Beach is
John's Pass Village & Boardwalk. John's Pass offers something for everyone including restaurants, shopping, boat, and jetski rentals, and fishing charters. If you are an active beach goer this is the spot for you. All the water and outdoor adventures can be found right here.
St. Pete Beach
St. Pete Beach is the furthest beach on our list but just a quick drive west of St. Petersburg from your
apartment near USF. St. Pete Beach offers a beautiful beach and the historic landmark
Don CeSar Hotel. Just past the hotel is Pass-A-Grille Beach and if you are looking for a more laidback beach spot this is for you. Pass-A-Grille features four miles of beach without high-rises and crowds just small shops and restaurants including the popular
Hurricane Seafood Restaurant.
Above are some of the most beautiful and popular beach options around your
USF off-campus housing. If you are looking to get away from it all especially in times of social distancing with Covid-19 the area also features many islands and keys where you can escape and immerse yourself in nature including
Honeymoon Island State Park and
Caladesi Island State Park, just north of Clearwater Beach and a short drive from Tampa. We hope this list helps and you are able to get out and explore the beautiful beaches around your USF apartment.
